How to Get a Library Card

Library Cards and Borrowing

Borrowing privileges are extended to anyone who lives, works or attends school in Ascension Parish. Children from the ages of 5 (or entering kindergarten) to 13 may apply for a juvenile library card. Library cards are issued at no charge for a three (3) year period. A fee of $1 will be charged to replace a lost card. To obtain a card you must show a current picture ID and proof of address. Acceptable forms of picture identification include driver's license, school ID, military ID, or passport. Acceptable forms of proof of address include driver's license, voter registration or mail that has been received.

Those persons in neighboring parishes (Assumption, East Baton Rouge, Iberville, Livingston, St. James, and St. John the Baptist) who present a library card from the parish in which they reside along with the above mentioned identification may register for a library card.

Most books, videos, audios, and magazines are borrowed for fourteen (14) days and may be renewed three times if there are no requests for the item; art prints are borrowed for 2 months. Overdue charges are five (.05) cents per day on most materials; twenty five (.25) cents per day on audios and videos will apply.

Please note that overdue items affect lending privileges of all members of the household.
