Hickley Waguespack, Sr.

His tenure as Ascension Parish Sheriff from June 1948- July 1972 marked the beginning of one of the most turbulent and progressive periods in parish history. In the 1950’s Ebony magazine ran a feature article focusing on his leadership in bringing about a peaceful transition to desegregated schools in Ascension Parish. From 1972-76, during Edwin Edwards’ first administration, he served as Director of Public Safety.
