He won the 1971 Grammy Award for Best Engineered Album for his work on “Theme from Shaft,” performed by Isaac Hayes. As a Memphis musician and sound engineer, he once played drums for Elvis. Mr. Capone also worked with Otis Redding on his hit song “Sittin’ on the Dock of the Bay” and was for many years the Chief Sound Engineer for Stax Records.
