Did you know that Storytime begins at birth? Ascension Parish Library offers a variety of storytimes for children from birth through age five. All of our storytimes are fun, interactive, and engaging, and promote early literacy skills. We’ll make learning fun, and your child’s face will light up with excitement as they sing along with their favorite songs and participate in interactive picture books. Storytime is also great for boosting your child’s social confidence, and you’ll be amazed at how much they come out of their shells in just a few short weeks as they interact with other children and with our staff. Children are not the only ones who benefit from the social aspects of storytime. As a parent, you’ll to get to know other parents who have children of a similar age and stage.
Babytime is for babies from birth through 18 months old. It’s an excellent chance for babies and caregivers to bond over books. Babytime is fast paced and energetic, and includes interactive board books and a variety of songs and fingerplays for babies and caregivers to enjoy together. Babytime will be held on Thursdays at 10:00 AM from October 3 through November 21 in Gonzales and Dutchtown.
Registration is required for all storytimes. Parents can register their child in advance by either calling or visiting the library. For more information on these fun-filled, educational programs, please contact Ascension Parish Library in Gonzales at 647-3955, in Donaldsonville at 473-8052, in Galvez at 622-3339, or in Dutchtown at 673-8699.
Let's get messy and have fun learning some science! We will make fizzy shapes and squishy soap at Ascension Parish Library in Gonzales on Thursday, October 24, 2019 at 6:00 PM. You’ll get to bring home your own ball of squishy soap. Call Gonzales at 647-3955 for more information.
Create monstrous toy mash-ups when you bring wrecked toys and ripped plushies back to life in frightful new combinations! Using stuffed animals, doll pieces, action figures, figurines, and old fast food trinkets, you can make your own Frankentoy just like Sid in Toy Story. Ascension Parish Library and the Ascension Parish Sheriff’s Office are happy to team up to provide this workshop. All materials will be provided. Children under the age of 7 may need help from an older sibling. This program will take place on Thursday, October 24 at 4:30 PM, at the Ascension Parish Sheriff’s Office Hickley M. Waguespack Center in Donaldsonville, 1201 Maginnis Street.
As always, if you need a library card, we’ll be happy to sign you up for one during our visit. Children 13 and younger will need a parental signature. Anyone over the age of 14 can register for an adult card, but you will need to provide a photo ID. (High School IDs are fine.)
