Susuwatari, translated as “travelling soot" or “soot sprites”, is the name of a fictitious yōkai devised by Hayao Miyazaki for the famous anime-productions My Neighbor Totoro and Spirited Away. These shy, slightly frightful creatures live in abandoned buildings and houses, and can perform work in return for small star shaped food. On Monday, September 9, join us at the library in Gonzales at 6 PM and make an adorable, fluffy soot sprite of your very own. With a little magic, maybe they’ll do some chores at home! However, if crafting isn’t your thing, don’t worry. We’ll also have Wii U available if you’d prefer to just play.
